Why are people joining the Studio for Holding the Arts at the Heart?

Last week we released the first Studio Adventure in our newest course: Holding the Arts and the Heart: Flourishing in Living and Learning. This adventure is a robust exploration of ephemeral art developed for us by Miriam Beloglovsky. Miriam is co-author of the famed Loose Parts series and the CEO of Playful Transformations.

Creativity is not just a personal trait, it's the heartbeat of innovation. It's a universal force that fuels our ability to solve problems, communicate effectively, and adapt to an ever-changing world. It's not just about art, it's about life. It's about finding new ways to approach challenges and express ourselves. (from Miriam's content at Holding the Arts at the Heart)

We're looking forward to the inspiring content that's on its way every other week through August.

We're hearing a lot of excitement as folks dig in:

"I took the summer workshop last year on Awe and Wonder and was so inspired. So much so in fact, I signed up for the summer session again and I am really excited to dive in. I am just glad that this platform exists and that I have all these wonderful resources and people to draw from."

"I spend a lot of time thinking about creativity, about the importance of staying curious. This course came up as a suggestion and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to spend some dedicated time thinking about the topic in a community."

"I just watched the recording of Monday's live discussion and appreciate the soothing balm it provided - looking forward to the upcoming events and experiences!"

"I am about 1/3 of the way through the book and continue to have my mind expanded by how many different ways art is being used to help.....I look forward to thinking through all of this with you and my co-teacher come fall!"

"I'm looking forward to being able to rest, reflect and reconnect to my own creative impulses."

"Really looking forward to reading an intriguing book and being able to have a community to discuss it with. And...playing with art supplies!"

"I'm really looking forward to reading the book, conversations within the group to spark new perspectives and ideas for myself to play with in my own art and art with the children. Very excited for this time of self-exploration."

We're so glad this engaged group has shown up to create community around the power and potential of the arts to nurture flourishing in living and learning - and would love to have you join us, too!

Next up: Jesús Oviedo, then Sophie Anne Edwards, and Georgia Heard. Also in conversation with Cindy Foley, Kirsty Liljegren, and Kelly Goodsir!

It's not too late!

Please be in touch if you have questions or would like to have a conversation about how the Studio would hold meaning for you or your group. We never want costs to be a barrier so please reach out if you are hesitating for financial reasons. We'll do our best to work with you!

Dear Reader, I ran into a neighbor I hadn’t seen for a long time at the dog park Saturday morning. When I learned that she has been taking writing classes, I asked what’s been capturing her writerly attention. “Nonfiction,” she tells me. “I want to write something to help teachers and parents stop being so anxious.” You and me both, Neighbor. When Susan and I proposed refuge as our September 2024 Studio focus, we thought that it might resonate for people at this moment. It didn’t take a...

Dear Reader, Who was it that said that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting something different to happen? The source is debatable. But wow is it true that we tend towards loops that fit that definition. Perhaps that’s why we deny that we’re stuck inside them, or perhaps because we’re hopeful, thinking that if we just try a little harder to do the thing, someday it will work out. In schools, for example, our pre-packaged curriculum is...
